TTACC's 2nd Panel on Global Economic Crisis was in Austin

TTACC organized its second panel on global economical crisis in Austin. Dr. Engin Kalkan, Dr. Osman Nal and Dr. Can Dogan were the speakers of the panel discussion. There were not only businessmen from the business communities of Austin but also professors and students from the University of Texas at Austin among the attendees. As the board member of TTACC, Murat Dagli welcomed the guests and gave a presentation about TTACC.

Starting the panel discussion, Dr. Dogan briefly presented some information about the economical situation of the U.S and compared it for the periods before and after the crisis. He also talked about why markets did not respond as expected and some of the controversies about the programs. Dr. Dogan predicted that once the economy starts recovering which he expects to be during the first quarter of 2010, economy will start growing fast again.


Dr. Osman Nal explained the reasons of the crisis from the very early stages with a visual presentation. He also mentioned about assumptions that had been made but later turned out to be false and how he was surprised to see that economic indicators had signaled before the crisis.

Dr. Engin Kalkan shared his views about the effects of the crisis on the real economy. Dr. Kalkan is who also a successful investor stated that each crisis brings opportunities. He also stated that dealing numbers too much as the other speakers did may prevent us to see the true picture of the economy today. He disagreed that economy will recover in 2010.

The guests enjoyed the speakers' point of view on the economical crisis in panel during the two hour period and they asked questions to the speakers at the end of the panel.
